Guerilla Union‘s 11th iteration of the rap festival series Rock the Bells announced its stellar 2011 lineup, and it’s bursting with classic rappers performing seminal albums in their entireties. The packed bill includes Ms. Lauryn Hill performing The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Nas spitting Illmatic (with special guests AZ, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock), Common revisiting Be, Erykah Badu unleashing Baduizm, Talib Kweli and Mos Def reforming for Black Star, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah playing Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Cypress Hill lighting up Black Sunday, GZA chopping off heads with Liquid Swords, Masta Killa doing No Said Date, Black Moon taking on Enta Da Stage, Wu-Tang associate Masta Killa performing his underappreciated 2004 solo full-length No Said Date, Mobb Deep becoming The Infamous, Souls of Mischief rewinding to ‘93 Til Infinity, and Killah Priest flowing over Heavy Metal. (OK, pause.) All of the above albums are outright classics, so this is shaping up to be a very memorable show.
There are plenty of performers not playing entire LPs. DOOM, Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs, Mac Miller (select dates), Immortal Technique, and Roc Marciano round out the other noteworthy acts. See the awe-inspiring lineup over here. Also, indie-hop supergroups Random Axe and Slaughterhouse will be in attendance and Community actor Donald Glover is set to road-test his rapping side project, Childish Gambino. RZA will MC the show. RTB’s website promises surprise guests and more acts to be announced soon. Tickets are on sale now. Guerilla Union and House of Blues are also partnering up for more live music events. See what they have planned over here.
