Earlier today, the newest single from Florence and the Machine, “Ship to Wreck” was released, riding the impressive wake of “What Kind of Man,” the first single off of the band’s upcoming album. “Ship to Wreck” shows great promise as it premiered as BBC 1’s Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World.

Florence Welch says of the song in a press release, “I was thinking about my own self destructive side, and how you can make something only to tear it down, enjoy/destroy, create/devastate etc. When you’re in that whirlwind, you often end up breaking the thing you love the most.” Despite the frustrated, pessimistic nature of the lyrics, the song itself is still very catchy and upbeat sounding. In that sense, it’s very similar to “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac as it’s a rocking and infectious song about a rather negative feeling or experience.

Florence and the Machine’s new album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful, will be released on June 2 via Republic Records.
