Grandaddy are releasing a new album, Last Place, on March 3 via 30th Century Records, a label run by Danger Mouse. It’s their first album in over a decade. Previously the band had shared three songs from the album: the more upbeat “Way We Won’t,” the slower ballad “Clear Your History,” and the six-minute long “A Lost Machine.” There was also a video for “Way We Won’t,” that starred actor Jason Ritter (Parenthood, Girls, Joan of Arcadia). Now the band has shared another song from the album, “Evermore,” via a visual that features a commercial jetliner dumping trash on a snow-capped mountain valley. Listen/watch it below via NPR (who premiered it), followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Frontman Jason Lytle had this to say about the song to NPR: “I have no idea what the song is about. But I really like the imagery of sad dirty trees that live by the freeway and throwing stuff out of commercial airliners. Also the line ‘‘When remembering is what forgetting’s for.’ It’s kinda high-school-corny poetry, but I still like it a lot.”

Grandaddy have a special place with Under the Radar, as they were on the cover of our very first print magazine, way back in 2001. The article was in honor of their 2000-released masterpiece The Sophtware Slump. And while they perhaps never quite matched the heights of that album, they still had a very solid catalogue before and after that record. It’s been a long 11 years since the band’s last album, 2006’s Just Like the Fambly Cat, so Last Place will be their first album in over a decade.
