R.E.M. are releasing a 25th anniversary reissue of their 1991 album Out of Time. Now they have shared a previously unreleased acoustic demo of single “Radio Song.” The original version opened the album and featured guest vocals from KRS One. The demo doesn’t include KRS One or the string section. Listen below via NPR, followed by the video for the original version of the song.
Out of Time was an album that grew the band’s fanbase thanks to radio hits “Losing My Religion” and “Shiny Happy People.” The album sold 12 million copies worldwide and was nominated for seven Grammys (it won three). The reissue comes in various formats, including a 2-CD set, a 3-LP set, and a 4-disc set. All three versions include a set of demos recorded at John Keane Studio in early 1990. The 4-disc set includes the band’s rare performance at Mountain Stage in 1991 (the band did not tour to promote Out of Time), and a Blu-ray disc with all of the music videos from the album and the 1991 electronic press kit “Time Piece” that features in-studio footage and exclusive performances.
