Having already shared a pair of new tracks off their forthcoming new album Heartthrob throughout the week, Tegan and Sara just seem to being for broke at this point, premiering yet another with the song “Shock to Your System.” Featuring the melancholy refrain “what you are is lonely,” Sara explained to Vanity Fair that “I was writing in Montreal during the dead of winter and I would spend days by myself . . . which resulted in a bit of cabin fever.” The lyrics she adds are “an interior dialogue between the part of me that was transfixed by my loneliness and the other part of me that was ready to get over it.”
