Legendary rock ‘n’ roll originator and innovator Chuck Berry passed away on Saturday at the ripe old age of 90. Last October, on his 90th birthday, he had announced that a new album, simply titled Chuck, would be coming out in 2017 sometime. Now the release date has been confirmed and the first song, “Big Boy,” has been shared from it. Chuck is due out June 16 via Dualtone. Listen to “Big Boy” below, followed by the album’s tracklist.

Chuck features ten new recordings, with eight written by Berry. It’s his first new album since 1979’s Rock It and was recorded and produced by Berry in St. Louis. His backing band for the album features his children Charles Berry Jr. (guitar) and Ingrid Berry (vocals, harmonica), along with Jimmy Marsala (Berry’s bassist for 40 years), Robert Lohr (piano), and Keith Robinson (drums). Special guests include Gary Clark Jr., Tom Morello, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Berry’s grandson Charles Berry III. Morello and Rateliff both appear on “Big Boy.”

When Chuck was announced Berry said the album was dedicated to his wife of 68 years, Themetta Berry, adding: “My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”

Charles Berry Jr. had this to say about the album in a press release: “Working on my Dad’s record has been one of the best experiences of my life. I will forever treasure the musical conversations we had, and the time we spent together completing it.”
