In the Mortified podcast adults reflect on embarrassing moments of their youth. In the latest installment, entitled “Boys Do Cry,” they debuted a segment called “The Mortified Muse.” For it they got the Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES to cover a song a man named Nat Miller wrote when he was 14 for his unrequited love Laurel. Laurel has never heard the song before, but Miller hopes she might hear it now that CHVRCHES has covered it. The song is much more stripped down and demo-like than most CHVRCHES tracks. At the end CHVRCHES frontwoman Lauren Mayberry adds, “For everyone who didn’t get the girls.”
Listen to the full podcast below or skip to around the 22-minute part for Miller’s story and to around the 25-minute mark for CHVRCHES’ cover.
CHVRCHES’ well-received second album, Every Open Eye, is out now via Glassnote. CHVRCHES were on the cover of our last print issue and recent we posted the in-depth 8-page 5,600-word cover story feature on the band to our website and you can read that here. You can also read our recent bonus digital magazine Q&A with them here.
