Today Little Scream (aka Laurel Sprengelmeyer) announced her Merge Records debut, titled Cult Following, out May 6. It features a number of star musicians, including Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten, the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Owen Pallett, TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone, and Mary Margaret O’Hara. Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry also helped with the music. She also has shared the video for “Love as a Weapon,” which was directed by Dan Huiting.

Huiting said the following in a press release about the video: “This video is a glimpse into my stream-of-consciousness brain. When I first listened to the song, I instantly had all these random ideas, like gold painted hands doing ASL, aerial shots of Laurel walking down a snowy barren road, a band performing against a backdrop of light tubes, etc. so I was really excited when Laurel and I were bouncing ideas back-and-forth that she was into all of the crazy set ups I had in mind, and also into the idea that instead of having to explain everything, we would just make these little visual landscapes and let them be what they are, fun and random, because that’s what the song feels like to me. I’m really happy with the way it turned out, it’s exactly what I pictured in my head!”

Also, she’ll be touring through the spring and summer. Tour dates are below.
