Lost in the Trees
North Carolina’s Lost in the Trees have announced the upcoming release of their third album, Past Life. The follow-up to last year’s A Church That Fits Our Needs, the new LP takes a stark, minimalist approach, with frontman Ari Picker paring down his usual six-piece backing band into a leaner quartet. Coinciding the new record’s announcement Lost in the Trees have premiered a music video for the included single “Rites,” which matches the music’s sparse pallete by depicting nothing more than a couple running through the dark while lyrics float in and out of the frame. In an interview with Rolling Stone Picker says ““While writing and recording Past Life, we worked to lift layers away, strip down and distill the core elements of the songs, which is reflected in the video. I want to create a world with as little as possible and the video speaks to these minimal aspects of the album. Visually, I was really drawn to the image of individuals passing through light and into shadow, this kind of fleeting glimpse.”
