Marissa Nadler is releasing a new album, For My Crimes, on September 28 via Sacred Bones and Bella Union. Previously she shared its title track, which features backing vocals from Angel Olsen. Now she has shared a video where she performs the song live on an acoustic guitar. Tyler Smith (a film school student) directed the black & white video. Watch it below. She has also announced a few more tour dates and check out all her upcoming dates below as well.

Nadler had this to say about the video in a press release: “Pleased to share with you all an acoustic video for the title track to my upcoming album, For My Crimes. This acoustic performance video was shot and edited in Los Angeles by a wonderful 19-year-old USC film student named Tyler Smith. An old friend from RISD helped me find Tyler and we are so glad that we did. We worked together to create a dreaminess to the video, where elements of flashbacks intermingle with the stark present-day reality.”

Nadler co-produced the album with Lawrence Rothman and Justin Raisen at Rothman’s Laurel Canyon studio, House of Lux. Along with Olsen, the album also features guest vocals from Sharon Van Etten and Kristin Kontrol. Plus Patty Schemel of Hole plays drums, Mary Lattimore contributes harp, and experimental multi-instrumentalist Janel Leppin is on strings. Nadler purposefully wanted strong female performers to guest on the album, with saxophonist Dana Colley (Morphine) the lone male player.

Nadler is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and a semi-retired art teacher (a press release points out that she has one student left, a 95-year-old named Doris). Still, For My Crimes is the first time one of her paintings has graced one of her album’s covers. She also has other paintings inspired by some of the album’s tracks and they will be included as prints in the limited edition version of For My Crimes (and some of the original paintings will also be for sale on Nadler’s website).
