New Zealand singer/songwriter/guitarist Marlon Williams released his sophomore album, Make Way For Love, back in February via Dead Oceans. Since then he has appeared in the hit Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga musical romance A Star Is Born, playing himself as a younger star tapped to lead a Roy Orbison tribute at the Grammys instead of Cooper’s somewhat aging rocker Jackson Maine. Now Williams has shared a video for “Beautiful Dress.” Charlotte Evans directed the lonely clip, which features Williams home alone, doing various daily tasks and perhaps nursing a broken heart. Watch it below.

In a press release, Williams says of the video, there’s “nothing so heartbreaking as nothing. When I think about the people I love preparing a meal in their homes, doing the dishes, carrying out the bare minimum actions of survival, it makes me want to cry. This is an exploration of the mundane. It’s not even an exploration. It’s just someone hanging out. It’s nothing.”

A press release promises that Williams is working on both new solo music for 2019 and a collaborative project.

Previously Williams shared a video for Make Way For Love‘s first single, “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore,” which is a duet with Aldous Harding and was our #1 Song of the Week, as well as videos for “What’s Chasing You” and “Come to Me” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week). Plus there was a video where he performed “Make Way For Love” with The Pou Tiriao Singers live in the studio.

Williams released his self-titled debut album in America on Dead Oceans in early 2016 and he shared a video for a brand new standalone single, “Vampire Again,” in August 2017 (it was one of our Songs of the Week too). Make Way For Love began with pre-production in Williams’ native Lyttelton, New Zealand with regular collaborator Ben Edwards. Then the album was recorded with Williams’ backing band, The Yarra Benders and producer Noah Georgeson in North California’s Panoramic Studios. “Vampire Again” is not featured on the album.
