Michael McDonald Talks About His Recent Collaboration with Grizzly Bear
A Recent Interview Reveals the Connection With and Admiration for the Band
Sep 01, 2009 Grizzly Bear
As we reported yesterday in this news item, the illustrious Michael McDonald has taken on lead vocals in Grizzly Bear’s B-side of “While You Wait For Others,” which is simply an alternate version of the single. And today, the Paste Magazine website has shed some light on the collaboration when Michael McDonald spoke with Paste. After attending a show, the manager of Chairlift, and a mutual friend, Molly Hawkins introduced McDonald and the band. On the collaboration: “Their songs were alluring and interesting. So when they mentioned to me about doing this, I said absolutely.” A thoroughly impressed McDonald accepted the band’s offer to work with them on the track, originally on background vocals. The band then asked him to take the lead, and he obliged, explaining to Paste that his admiration for the high level of musicianship in the band was a driving factor. McDonald explains, “The punk movement swung towards being as primitive as possible, but now it’s back to where these guys are good musicians. I never thought that would come back around, but it has.”
