Morrissey is releasing California Son, a covers album, on May 24 via BMG. Now he has shared the album’s cover of “Morning Starship,” a 1973 song by Jobriath (aka Bruce Wayne Campbell). The track features Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. Campbell is considered to be the first openly gay artist to be signed to a major label, but he tragically passed away in 1983 from AIDS. Listen to the cover below.

Previously Morrissey shared California Son‘s first single, a cover of Roy Orbison’s “It’s Over” that featured LP (aka Laura Pergolizzi). The album also features Broken Social Scene’s Ariel Engle, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, The Regrettes’ Lydia Night, Petra Haden, and Young The Giant’s Sameer Gadhia.

Morrissey’s last album was 2017’s Low in High School. The album’s deluxe edition, which was released last December, included four previously unreleased tracks and five covers of songs by his favorite artists, including his cover of The Pretenders’ “Back on the Chain Gang.”
