You might want to sit down before reading this. In the mid-00s, Sufjan Stevens released Illinois, a breathtaking album of near-perfect orchestral pop. Five years, one Christmas album, one b-sides collection, and a soundtrack later, he's doing it again.

As revealed to Exclaim by The National's Bryce Dessner, Stevens is currently in the studio, working on new material, adding, "It's going to be incredible. It's going to probably blow people's minds." While Dessner did reveal his band is guesting on the new project, additional details were scant. However, when writer Ian Gormely asked if its sounds anything like his previous work, Dessner replied with a "resounding no."
