Okkervil River Goes 8bit in RPG Video Game
Features Chiptune Versions of Songs From The Silver Gymnasium
Aug 21, 2013 Okkervil River
Continuing to be quite creative in the promotional lead-up to his band’s newest album The Silver Gymnasium, an album inspired by his childhood living in Meriden, NH, Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff has embraced his ‘80s childhood roots by developing his own 8bit video game. Taking cues from era staples such as Maniac Mansion and King’s Quest, Sheff teamed up with Eyes and Ears’ Benjamin Miles for the RPG adventure experience.
For the soundtrack, Sheff himself composed chiptune versions of songs from The Silver Gymnasium. With the first chapter launching today, with more coming every two weeks, you can click here to play as a boy version of Sheff and explore a scary graveyard.
The Silver Gymnasium comes out Sept. 3 on ATO Records.
