Paramount Pushes New Scorsese Film to 2010
Shutter Island's Original October Release Now Set for February
What may seem like a confounding move for film buffs and studios alike, Paramount is insisting is the result of simple economics. According to this Variety piece, the upcoming Scorsese feature Shutter Island is being pushed from its original October 6th release date clear into the next calendar year to February 19th. Paramount has made the move in an effort to save the studio money, since a studio is required to absorb the full cost of prints and marketing as well as 20% of the production budget in the same quarter as its release. And the move could ostensibly save the studio million of dollars, though the scale of the names attached to the movie (Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese) will cause concern, especially with their last pairing (The Departed) earning Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Yet, the studio maintains that flexibility is required to work within the current economic climate, leaving Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones (Dec. 11) as the only remaining title for Paramount in 2009.

Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. Printmaking normally covers only the process of creating prints with an element of originality, rather than just being a photographic reproduction of a painting. Except in the case of mono typing, the process is capable of producing multiples of the same piece, which is called a ‘print’.

In many human societies, the act of mutually exchanging money, goods, etc. may contribute to social cohesion. Economists have elaborated the economics of gift-giving into the notion of a gift economy.
