Premiere: Gunakadeit – “Afterschool Special” Video
Pop From Pain

Gunakadeit’s new track “Afterschool Special” is a playful pop tune with a seriously dark underbelly. So naturally frontwoman and mastermind Natasha Kozaily had to lighten the mood, right?
“‘After School Special’ is an extremely personal account of a relationship I had when that left me feeling exploited, foolish and heartbroken,” she says of the video. “I didn’t want to play the naive submissive role that is so often advertised to woman. I wanted to regain my position of power through this visualization of a very confusing and crushing time of my adolescence; to be the hunter, not the hunted. So, I asked my friend Alex Dausch from Octagrape if he would be into dancing around in the desert with me and of course he agreed. I conducted his movements, like a puppet master throughout the video that Jancarlo Beck beautifully shot. The only instruction I gave Alex was to follow my hands like his life depended on it and shake his ass. The whole thing was improvised on the spot without any choreography. We ran it a couple times and the dialogue and dynamic between us just happened in a natural and perfect way. It was an emotional experience for all of us and at the end I felt very liberated.”
Watch the high-energy clip below. So far Gunakadeit only had a few cuts online, but you can bet there’s more where that came from. While you wait, be sure to visit her Soundcloud page.
