Premiere: Pale Dian – “Narrow Birth” Album Stream
Out Tomorrow on Manifesto; Hear the Entire LP Now
Jun 02, 2016 Pale Dian
This Friday, Narrow Birth, the debut full-length from Austin’s Pale Dian, will surface via Manifesto (pre-order at iTunes/Amazon). Today, we’re streaming the album in its entirety.
The Cocteau Twins comparisons that have met the band are not unfounded (“In a Day” and “Feral Bloom” standing as a particularly worthy descendants of the dream pop legends), but there’s plenty more going on beneath Narrow Birth‘s smoky surfaces. “Evan Evan” achieves a snarling post-punk rush, “Lonesome Waste” recalls the effortless melodicism and bruised beauty of Lush, and “The Avenue” billows into Cruise-Badalamenti-Lynch territory. Throughout it all, Ruth Ellen Smith’s vocals cascade from howling ecstasy to bottomless despair, mirroring the music’s fever pitch highs and dusky valleys. Head below to listen and check out the band’s upcoming tour dates.
