Premiere: Spirit Animal Mixtape – “Thanks, Druncle”

A Soundtrack to a Few Cold Ones

We fell for Spirit Animal a few weeks ago when Big Black Delta remixed their dancefloor ready track, “Crocodile Skins.” While the band is currently mixing the follow-up to 2010’s The Cost of Living, we asked if they’d contribute to our ongoing mixtape project. Here’s what they had to say about their entry:

“Just as a journalist is only as good as his sources, an on-again, off-again MP3J is only as good as his British buddies who listen to dance music.  During a recent visited to my old apartment in L.A. I saw my former roommate, Chruncle -- his name is Chris Uncle, i.e. Chris + Uncle = Chruncle—and a batch of floor-bruising songs were introduced to me that I knew immediately had to go into this mix.  Naturally, the enlightenment took place under the influence of some cold ones.  So, “Thanks, Druncle” for the James Blake, Oliver Huntemann, Moderat and Anstam chunes that fit so well with the stuff I've been listening to lately like Death Grips and Kindness.”

1. Pesky: It's Your Vooodooo

2. Moderat: A New Error

3. White Sea: Ladykiller (Spirit Animal REMIX)

4. James Blake: Air & Lack Thereof

5. Kindness: Cyan

6. El-P: Request Denied

7. Anstam: Baldwin

8. Death Grips: Lost Boys

9. Oliver Huntemann: Delirium
