Toronto’s electro rock bombardiers The Darcys return with a splash this Friday (November 4) with their new album Centerfold, released on Arts & Crafts. It’s a pivot point for original founders Jason Couse and Wes Marskell, who have continued together as a duo after their first string of releases incorporated a medley of collaborators. Produced by Grammy-award winner Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Julian Casablancas, Weezer), Centerfold is a focused and audacious turn towards invigorating pop music for a duo that has always found motivation in the thrill of new horizons.

Their latest frontier of sound has been introduced with a steady release of singles since the summer including “Coming Up For Air” and “Miracle,” all brandishing a variety of newfound fresh and clean pop contours. As Marksell has explained in a press release: “We’re not really working with a formula and there was never an obvious next record for us. If anything, a pop record seems as logical as anything else.” They set the tone for the sparkling modernity of their new music, which you can absorb in its entirety right here with our premiere of the full album stream. The Darcys’ new sound was achieved with the contributions of mixer Matty Green (TV on the Radio, The Weeknd) and the mastering expertise of Emily Lazar. Centerfold presents a cohesive package of 10 tracks selected from a bundle of over 50 created in a two-year period in three countries.

The band gave us this statement about the album: “Centerfold is about escape. It’s a top down neon-lit road trip. On the surface it’s about the magic of desert highways and the dream of seeing your name in lights but as you dive in deeper you’ll sense the darkness, the disillusionment, and the trouble we all get into along the way.”

Those eager to hear where The Darcy’s uninhibited aspirations have taken them since 2013’s acclaimed Warring, which earned Juno Award and Polaris Music Prize nominations, can find out now. Listen below.
