Premiere: The Death of Pop - “Headaches”
Bubble Bath EP Out July 10 via Label Fandango

The Death of Pop
Lots of bands in the last decade or so have tried to recapture the glorious sounds of the early ‘90s shoegazing movement, but few have been so convincing in the last couple of years at both channeling the shoegazing vibe and making it their own as London four-piece The Death of Pop. Last year we did a Pleased to Meet You feature on the band and now we’re happy to premiere their new song “Headaches.” Contrary to its title, the gorgeous track has a swirling mix to get lost in, rather than pop Aspirins to.
The song is taken from the band’s new EP, Bubble Bath, due out July 10 via Label Fandango. It’s the follow-up to last year’s Fifths EP, released on Art Is Hard.
The Death of Pop’s guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist Angus James told us about the origins of the song. “‘Headaches’ started out as a very slow sleepy instrumental demo recorded in the early hours of the morning and we gradually built the song up from that,” he explained. “When we recorded the song for this EP we weren’t happy with it until we added the Mellotron parts and then it had this late ‘60s psych sound to it that we really liked. It’s a slight departure from our normal sound but we hope people enjoy it. It follows on from our song ‘Circles’ from our last EP.”
Previously the band had shared Bubble Bath track “Rayban Party.” The Death of Pop are scheduled to play FIB Benicàssim festival in Spain on July 18. Back in April they also released a very limited edition CD compilation (only 100 copies) called Runts on the Spanish label Discos De Kirlian. In October they will be releasing a 7-inch single on Too Pure and they have an album in the works for 2016.
