Under the Radar‘s one-week Protest Auction for the American Cancer Society ended on Tuesday and was a complete success. But as happens every time we do a protest sign auction, a handful of signs didn’t sell for whatever reason. For example, some of the fans of the artists who made those signs simply didn’t find out about the auction in time and have since contacted us to see if they could still bid on the signs. So we have relisted them. You have until next Wednesday, November 2, at 3 PM eastern to bid on the signs by Perfect Pussy, Wild Beasts, Everything Everything, Fear of Men, Amber Arcades, Cullen Omori, and Younghusband. Also still up for grabs is a signed vinyl copy of How to Dress Well‘s latest album, Care. We have also lowered the starting bids on all of these auctions. This is your last chance to both help us raise money for cancer research and own a unique piece of music memorabilia. Under the Radar‘s Protest Issue is out now both digitally and on newsstands nationwide. The Protest Issue uses the time-honored connection between politics and music to promote political dialogue and awareness in a way that few media outlets do in this day and age. We have put together a Protest Issue every U.S. Presidential election year since 2004, and as before this issue features articles examining the intersection of music and politics and photo shoots with musicians holding protest signs of their own making. Under the Radar provided musicians poster-board and paint and asked them to make their own signs. The artists were free to write whatever message they liked-it was an exercise in free speech.

Amanda Palmer graces the cover holding a protest sign that ties into one of the main articles in the issue, one that tackles sexism, feminism, and misogyny in the music industry. That article also features Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino, CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry, Lower Dens’ Jana Hunter, Lush’s Miki Berenyi, music publicist Beth Martinez, Amanda Palmer, Natalie Prass, Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves, Tegan and Sara’s Sara Quin, and Chelsea Wolfe. Another big article in the issue centers on the 2016 U.S. Presidential election and includes interviews with Billy Bragg, Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier, Kristin Kontrol, Mew’s Jonas Bjerre, Moby, Thurston Moore, Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, Amanda Palmer, Henry Rollins, Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg, Superchunk’s Laura Ballance, and Andrew W.K. Other political articles examine progressive musicians who are based in red states and whether cancelling shows and boycotting performing in specific states and countries is an effective means of protest.
