R.I.P. Geneviève Elverum of Woelv and Ô Paon (Wife of Phil Elverum of Mount Eerie)
"It's all very sad and surreal. So much is left unfinished for her."

O Paon
Geneviève Elverum (née Gosselin and also known as Geneviève Castrée) passed away yesterday after losing her fight with pancreatic cancer. She was a musician and comic book artist who had recorded as both Woelv and Ô Paon and was the wife of Phil Elverum of Mount Eerie and The Microphones. As we previously reported, the Elverums had been seeking donations to help with the costs of the cancer treatments. Geneviève was diagnosed with inoperable, stage four pancreatic cancer just four months after giving birth to their daughter. The Elverums had set up a GoFundMe page to gather donations to help with medical bills and other costs, as neither of them had been able to work while dealing with both treatments and taking care of a baby. Neutral Milk Hotel then also helped out and by hosting an auction with proceeds going to the Elverums.
Geneviève passed away yesterday with her husband and parents by her side. Phil announced the sad news on their GoFundMe page with this statement:
“Geneviève died today at 1pm.
She was truly driven to work and stay living right up to the last minute, insisting on getting up and going to work in her studio way beyond when many would have surrendered to rest.
Last night and this morning she declined quickly and receded into her own eyes as her body vetoed her wishes, her lungs filling with fluid. She died at home with me and her parents holding her, hopefully having reached some last minute peace.
It’s all very sad and surreal. So much is left unfinished for her. She was a firehose of brilliant ideas that never turned off.
We loved her and everything is weird now.
Thank you for all the money, all the support and love.
Phil”
Our thoughts and sincerest condolences go out to Phil, their one-year-old daughter, and all of Geneviève’s family and friends.
