His name was Moore, Roger Moore and the British actor was best known for playing the most iconic super spy of all, James Bond. Moore’s family has announced today that the beloved actor has passed away after a battle with cancer, a trap even 007 couldn’t escape. Sir Roger Moore took over from Sean Connery for 1973’s Live and Let Die and continued in the role for 12 years and seven films, ending with 1985’s A View to a Kill, making him the most prolific Bond actor.

Before playing Ian Fleming’s secret agent, he was the Leslie Charteris spy-like character Simon Templar in TV’s The Saint from 1962 to 1969, as well as starring in TV’s The Persuaders! from 1971 to 1972. Post-Bond, Moore took a five-year break from acting and then sporadically worked until his final film in 2011, A Princess for Christmas. He was also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for “services to charity.” Moore is survived by three children and his fourth wife, Kristina Tholstrup. Below are various tweets about his passing, including a statement from his family, as well as original trailers for all his Bond films.
