R.I.P. Storm Thorgerson, Iconic Album Designer
Known For Work With Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Others
Storm Thorgerson, the British artist known for some of the most iconic album covers in the history of popular music, died earlier today at the age of 69 after a recent battle with cancer. Best known for his work with Pink Floyd, whom he collaborated with for years, Thorgerson was responsible for the covers of The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Division Bell. Thorgerson also designed the artwork for Led Zeppelin’s House of the Holy and In Through the Out Door, as well as albums for Peter Gabriel, Muse, and The Mars Volta.
In a statement on his website Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour said, “He has been a constant force in my life, both at work and in private, a shoulder to cry on and a great friend. The artworks that he created for Pink Floyd from 1968 to the present day have been an inseparable part of our work. I will miss him.” (BBC News)
