Radiohead Recording New Album This Winter

According to Guitarist Ed O'Brien

Anytime Radiohead sneezes the RSS feeds light up and the aggregators work faster than Speedy Gonzales. Today is no exception folks. This past summer, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke gave a rare and rather protracted interview to The Believer, in which he crushed fans' hopes for a quick follow-up to 2008's In Ranbows. He simply stated that Radiohead didn't plan on putting out any more full-length albums anytime soon: "None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off.  I mean, it's just become a real drag. It worked with In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we've all said that we can't possibly dive into that again. It'll kill us."

Turns out, guitarist Ed O'Brien is renigging on his bandmate's promise. In a recent interview with NME and corroborated by fan site At Ease, he said: "We were misquoted. We will be making an album!"

O'Brien also relayed to NME that the seminal group plans to hole up in its Oxfordshire studio this winter. ""It's always miserable!" he said. "Are we at the whim of the seasons? We are! When you're in a studio in the countryside, the music you make is definitely affected by what season it is."

Now Yorke did say "full-length albums" were probably out of the question so what the whole group considers an album may be different than what we expect. We'll just have to wait and see what Radiohead emerges out of hibernation with next spring.

It's also interesting to note that O'Brien also splits off from Yorke on the CD format, which Yorke's not a big fan of: "We all like vinyl. That's not going to go away. I still like CDs as well. I got the Speech Debelle CD the other day-I nearly downloaded it from iTunes, but I thought, 'No, I want the physical thing.'" As always, it'll be interesting how this all shakes out.
