As we previously reported, Georg Holm and Orri Páll Dýrason, two thirds of Sigur Rós, have partnered with Icelandic composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Sigur Rós touring guitarist Kjartan Holm (also Georg Holm’s brother), to record the score to the BBC documentary film The Show of Shows. Their soundtrack is being released under the title Circe on August 21 via Sigur Rós’ own label Krunk. Now they have shared the first track from Circe, “Lila,” via a hypnotic and haunting video featuring mainly grainy black & white footage of vaudeville performers dancing, likely footage filmed in the first half of the 20th century. It even features a woman who dances while holding a wooden chair in her teeth!

The footage no doubt comes from The Show of Shows, as the documentary features 100 years of footage of circuses, vaudeville, and carnivals. It’s not due to air on the BBC until next year.

Circe is described in a press release as “an uninterrupted 72-minute instrumental album.” It contains 14 tracks, was recorded at Sigur Rós’ studio space in Reykjavik, and also features the South Iceland Chamber Choir. It will be released on double vinyl, CD, and download (pre-order info is here). Below you can also watch the trailer for The Show of Shows.
