Sultans of strange The Flaming Lips are no strangers to a wacky visuals or outlandish ideas. After collaborating with kissing-cousins Stardeath and White Dwarfs on a Dark Side of the Moon recreation, baring it all in a music video, and oh yeah, releasing double-album Embryonic, lead lip Wayne Coyne is heading back into the world of filmmaking, reportedly working on the follow-up to seven-years-in-the-making movie, Christmas on Mars. Brace yourself, Christmas 2017 is going to be awesome!
As Coyne told Billboard, the new as-yet-untitled project will star the usual suspects—his friends, family, and bandmates. However, Coyne adds, "I'm gonna try to get real actors...celebrities to show up and have fun with us for a couple of nights. I'm in the process of begging Justin Timberlake to be part of it; if I'm lucky I'll be able to wear him down in another year." Just don't expect him to start a countdown on his creative pursuit. Says Coyne, "Because I get to do it with people I love and it's my art, I don't care how long it takes."
