The Get Up Kids Share “Lou Barlow” Video Starring None Other Than Lou Barlow
Problems Out Now via Polyvinyl

The Get Up Kids
The Get Up Kids released a new album, Problems, back in May via Polyvinyl. Now they have shared a funny video for the album’s “Lou Barlow” that actually stars its namesake, Lou Barlow himself. In it the Sebadoh and Folk Implosion member attempts to use his clout to get into a sold-out Get Up Kids show, even pulling out his driver’s license and a vinyl copy of Problems to explain to the bouncer that one of its songs is named after him. “I acted the shit out of that,” jokes Barlow in a press release statement about the video. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Kerstin Ebert directed the video, which was filmed at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom.
The Get Up Kids’ Matt Pryor had this to say about the video in a press release: “We kept joking how hilarious it would be if we could get Lou Barlow to be in the video for ‘Lou Barlow.’ It was absolute luck that we both happened to be in New York on the same day. When he agreed, we were thrilled. When we saw how much he put into the video, we were floored. He was amazing.”
Problems is the follow-up to 2018’s Kicker EP, which was the band’s first release in seven years. The Get Up Kids features Matt Pryor (guitars/vocals), Jim Suptic (guitars/vocals), Rob Pope (bass), Ryan Pope (drums), and James Dewees (keys). Peter Katis (Kurt Vile, The National) produced the album.
Suptic had this to say about the album in a previous press release: “I’m 41 now, I could never write a song like when I was 19 - all those ‘I miss my girlfriend’ kind of songs. It’s always important to us to write about wherever we are right now.”
Pryor added: “A big part of the reason why we started writing new songs in the first place is that we have things we want to say about this moment in time. We’re still so connected to our past and where this all came from - it’s definitely a celebration of the fact that we still get to do this.”
