The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir
Chicago chamber-pop band, The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, were in a tragic van accident Thursday as the band were heading from Indiana to a gig in Cincinnati, Ohio. En route, the band’s van blew a tire, rolling several times, and finally ending upside down on the highway’s median. Band members were immediately transported to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, IN, where they were treated for various injuries.
Keyboardist Alison Hinderliter, drummer Jay Santana, and violinist Ethan Adelsman were all released from the hospital Thursday night with minor injuries. Songwriter/vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Elia Einhorn was kept overnight with injuries to his head and neck, and was expected to be released Friday. Guitarist/vocalist Mary Ralph suffered a broken pelvis and collarbone, and was expected to be moved to a hospital nearer to her home. Bassist/recording engineer Mark Yoshizumi was airlifted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn Thursday night with injuries to his head, back, and neck. He is in serious condition but making progress.
In addition to the injuries, all of the band’s gear was destroyed and their van was totaled. Due to a lack of insurance—which is commonplace for musicians—the expense is expected to be monumental. I had surgery in June and my insurance has no deductible. The insurance company paid the doctor and the pathologist, but they wont pay the hospital. the insurance company says they havent gotten a bill. the hospital says they have sent it and received a denial with no explanation from the insurance company. I dont know what to do. I’ve asked for the hospital to send me the bill to submit myself, but they dont do it. They say they do, but I never get it. I’m so frustrated. What can I do??? The hospital has an out-of-state company do their billing or I would go there in person. My insurance company is also out of state.
