Tinariwen
Last night on The Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert introduced the greater part of America to Tinariwen, a North African “Touareg” band that made quite an impression on TV on the Radio members Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone when the two groups were introduced to one another at Coachella. As the story goes the nomadic Malian musicians were so taken with TVOTR that they invited the group to contribute to their latest full-length Tassili. With Colbert providing his usual funny quips (“My guests tonight are a North African refugee band, so their living conditions are slightly better than most American bands.”) check out the interview and palette expanding performances of the band’s tracks “Tenere Taggim Tossam” and “Imidiwan Ma Tenam.” Tassili is out now on Anti-.
