Toy Story
The first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated Toy Story 4 has been shared. It features many of our favorite characters, including Tom Hanks’ Woody, seemingly jumping in midair all holding hands. Then a new character is introduced, Forky, who is voiced by Tony Hale (Veep) and is more of a DIY toy creation who doesn’t feel like he belongs. The trailer is soundtracked by Judy Collins’ version of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and can be watched below. Toy Story 4 is due out June 21, 2019 via Disney.
Toy Story 3 was a critically acclaimed monster hit (it was even #1 on Quentin Tarantino’s favorite films of 2010 list). At the time it was considered to likely be the last Toy Story movie. In a press release Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley had this to say about continuing the franchise: “Like most people, I assumed that Toy Story 3 was the end of the story. And it was the end of Woody’s story with Andy. But just like in life, every ending is a new beginning. Woody now being in a new room, with new toys, and a new kid, was something we have never seen before. The questions of what that would be like became the beginning of an entertaining story worth exploring.”
Of the new character of Forky, Cooley had this to say: “The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose. A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.”
Adds Hale: “A utensil’s existential crisis? I’m in!”
