Two people were killed and 23 others were injured last night at SXSW when a car slammed through barricades into a crowd. The New York Times reports, via the Associated Press, that the driver was drunk and attempted to flee the scene before being apprehended by authorities.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. outside the Mohawk at 9th and Red River as festival goers were leaving a show.
The Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo wrote on the department's Twitter account, "We owe it to the victims and their families to gather the evidence we need to bring them justice."
