Last night at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, which were broadcast on VH1, Death Cab for Cutie performed a cover of Simple Minds' 1985 hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)." The performance was part of a tribute to film director John Hughes, who passed away last August. The original Simple Minds' version was featured in Hughes' 1985 film The Breakfast Club and clips from that, and other Hughes' classics, played behind Death Cab. We have the video below. You can also find our tribute to John Hughes here. And make sure to pick up Under the Radar's Best of the Decade Issue, which features Death Cab's Ben Gibbard on the cover (along with four other artists of the decade) and is on stands now.

Alas. Truly terrible. From a fan of the original, and someone who’d like to be a fan of new music. The ‘big’ music of those artists can’t be authentically covered by powerless, androgynous sad-sacks.
