Blur played Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Bowl last night for their rendition of “Parklife,” the title track to their 1994 Britpop masterpiece, they brought out a special guest Damon Albarn simply referred to as “Fred.” Of course it was none other than Portlandia star/co-creator (and ex-Saturday Night Live cast member) Fred Armisen. Armisen was clad in a white suit and gamely made up some new Los Angeles-centric lyrics for the song, as he sang the spoken word verses that were narrated by actor Phil Daniels on the original song. Armisen even got Albarn to do some impromptu synchronized dance moves. There’s a good quality fan video of the whole thing, which you can watch below.
Blur’s long-awaited new album, The Magic Whip, was released earlier in the year by Warner Bros. and the band just announced a new documentary/concert film entitled New World Towers. The first season of Armisen’s spot-on faux documentary series on IFC, Documentary Now!, recently concluded and a new season of Portlandia is due to air next year.
