Cat’s Eyes
Cat’s Eyes is comprised of The Horrors’ Faris Badwan and Italian-Canadian singer/multi-instrumentalist Rachel Zeffira. Check out this live performance video of the duo covering “The Crying Game.”
“The Crying Game” was originally written by Geoff Stephens and released by Dave Berry in the U.K. in July 1964. The original version featured the eventual legend Jimmy Page on guitar. In 1992, Boy George recorded the song to be featured in the Oscar-nominated movie with the same title (and an infamous gender-bending plot twist), The Crying Game.
The Cat’s Eyes version of “The Crying Game” was filmed at the Musical Museum in London, and features a neon Wurlitzer organ that changes colors throughout the emotional song. Badwan’s vocals are eerie and touching. The overall song keeps an intimate tone, as the only instruments are an oboe, the Wurlitzer organ, guitar, and vocals.
Cat’s Eyes self-titled full-length debut was released in April and the duo are interviewed in our current issue, the Music vs. Comedy issue, on stands now. The Horrors will be releasing their new album Skying July 11 via XL Recordings. Watch the video for “The Crying Game” below.
