Watch First Trailer for Harry Potter Spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”
Due Out November 18, 2016
The Harry Potter film series wrapped up nicely with 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. After eight films in 10 years that well was pretty much tapped, but Warner Bros. has returned to the world of Harry Potter with the spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on author J.K. Rowling’s 2001 supplement book to the Harry Potter series. The film isn’t due out until next November 18, but today we’ve been treated to its first trailer, which you can watch below.
Rowling actually also wrote the screenplay for this one and it’s the first of a planned new trilogy. David Yates, the director of the final four Harry Potter films, returns behind the camera. The film takes place in 1926 New York and centers on Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a British wizard who is tracking down several fantastical beasts who have escaped from his magical briefcase and are wrecking havoc across the city. The film also stars Katherine Waterston, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, Alison Sudol, and others.
