Watch First Trailer for Transgender Love Story “The Danish Girl” Starring Eddie Redmayne
Alicia Vikander and Ben Whishaw Also Star in Film Out This Fall
The Danish Girl is Eddie Redmayne's first film since winning the Oscar for Best Actor for The Theory of Everything. It's based on the 2000 novel by David Ebershoff, which was a fictionalized account of a true story. The movie is set in 1920s Copenhagen. Redmayne plays Einar Wegener, who begins to realize that she's a woman trapped in a man's body and starts to transform into Lili Elbe. Eventually she becomes the first ever recipient of male to female sex reassignment surgery. Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) plays her wife Gerda Wegener and the film also stars Ben Whishaw, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Amber Heard. It's directed by Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, Les Misérables) and due out in New York and Los Angeles November 27, followed by a wider release in December. Check out the first trailer below, which perhaps gives away a bit too much of the plot.
