The new video for Jack White‘s single “That Black Bat Licorice” is an allnew music video experience. Depending on whether you hold the “3” or “B” key on your keyboard, you will be treated to two alternate dimensions to the main video.

The main video is an animated rendering of the song’s lyrics and is directed by James Blagden. As it follows the video’s subject, a longhaired young man, the lyrics are brought to life in the situations he faces. As White sings, “I fantasize about the hospital, the army, asylum, confinement, in prison…,” the subject is seen laying in a hospital bed, army barracks, a padded room, complete darkness, and finally in a jail cell.

If you hold the “3” key, you get the liveaction version of the animated video, directed by Jack White himself. White also stars in this alternate video, closely mirroring the actions of the animated subject from the first video. White proves to have a rather trippy vision when it comes to directing as a great deal of his video is shot in a very cool, photonegative viewpoint.

The third and simplest video in the trio is found by holding down the “B” key. This video, directed by Brad Holland, features a stark, concrete courtyard in which a motley crew of people show off their headbanging skills. Not only does Holland feature the headbanging in slowmotion, but also in a very effective reverse fashion.

“That Black Bat Licorice” has recently been released as a 7inch single and can be found on White’s Grammy-winning album, Lazaretto, out now on Third Man Records.
