Nice as Fuck (aka NAF), is a new band featuring Jenny Lewis, Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Forster, and The Like’s Tennessee Thomas. The band recently surprised-released their self-titled debut album. Before that, they made their live debut at a Bernie Sanders benefit and went out on tour opening for M. Ward. Last night they stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to make their network television debut and perform their first single “Door,” which followed by the very short song “Guns.” With the lights dimmed low, people sitting cross-legged around the trio, and a peace sign lit up behind the band it was more like a happening than a late night TV performance. Plus Nice as Fuck is a bit more primal than Lewis’ solo work. Of course, Colbert couldn’t say the band’s full name on the air and their logo had to be censored too. Watch the fantastic performance below.

Lewis’ most recent album was 2014’s The Voyager. Read our interview with Lewis on the creation of the album, as well as our 2008 cover story on her.
