Watch Kermit the Frog Play “The Rainbow Connection” with Jim James and Janet Weiss
At the Newport Folk Festival This Past Weekend
At the Newport Folk Festival this past weekend none other than the legendary Kermit the Frog took the stage to perform his classic "Rainbow Connection" in honor of The Muppet Movie turning 40. He was joined by Jim James of My Morning Jacket on vocals and former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss on drums. Watch fan-shot video of the performance below.
My Morning Jacket are releasing a 20th anniversary reissue of their 1999-released debut album, The Tennessee Fire, on August 2 via Darla and it includes "16 previously unreleased and unheard, lost songs, demo outtakes, alternate versions, and more."
Weiss unexpectedly announced at the start of the month that she was leaving Sleater-Kinney only a month and a half before their new album, The Center Won't Hold, is to be released (it's due out August 16 via Mom + Pop).
As for Kermit, the last Muppet movie was 2014's Muppets Most Wanted. There was also the short-lived The Muppets TV show on ABC. And there is currently an animated revival of Muppet Babies airing on Disney Junior. A new television show, Muppets Live Another Day, co-starring Josh Gad, is in the works for the new Disney+ streaming service in 2020. It is supposed to take place directly after the events of the 1984 film The Muppets Take Manhattan.
