Metronomy released a new album, Summer 08, back in July via Because Music. Now the British band, led by main creative force Joseph Mount, have shared a video for “Hang Me Out to Dry.” It is a duet between Mount and Swedish pop star Robyn that starts like something from the Twin Peaks soundtrack before growing into a fun electro-pop number. Mount and Robyn don’t appear in the video, which features a woman in a 1970s Dodge Aspen car. Memories of her past relationships are reflected in various parts of the car and the woman decides to take it out on the car. Paris/Montreal collective Dent de Cuir directed the video, which you can watch below.
Dent de Cuir had this to say about the video in a press release: “A great man of cinema once said: ‘All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun.’ We just swapped the gun for a car. This concept offered a great metaphor: love is just a car ride. But let’s cut the crap here, we did all of this for one reason: to put a check mark over ‘burning a ‘70s Dodge Aspen’ on our bucket list. We were surprised to see how simple it was to play with the practical image distortions on a car, and we also learnt that firefighters are the most efficient pyromaniacs in the world.”
