Pixies released a new album, Head Carrier, last Friday via Pixiesmusic/[PIAS]. Now the band has shared a video for the album’s first single, “Um Chagga Lagga.” Black Francis (aka Frank Black) directed the clip, which marks his directorial debut. It was written, storyboarded, produced, and directed by Francis and filmed in Toulouse, France. It mixes quick cuts of black & white images of the band performing the song with color shots filmed in the French countryside. Watch it below.
Head Carrier is the band’s second album since reuniting in 2004 and is the follow-up to 2014’s Indie Cindy, which was more of an EP collection than an album. It is the first album to feature Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle, Zwan, The Entrance Band) as their new permanent bassist. Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood) produced Head Carrier, which was recorded at London’s Rak Studios from mid-February through to mid-March this year. Pixies spent six weeks in pre-production (writing, arranging, and rehearsing all the songs), which was a luxury the band didn’t have in their ‘80s and ‘90s heyday when they were releasing a new album a year from 1988 to 1991. Previously the band shared the album’s first single, “Um Chagga Lagga,” followed by another song from the album, “Talent” and a video for “Tenement Song.”
