Watch Pre-Radiohead Thom Yorke Perform “High and Dry” with Previous Band Headless Chickens
Footage from Late 1980s Concert Has Surfaced Online

The other members of Headless Chickens, a band from Exeter, England who only ever released one song, 1989’s “I Don’t Want to Go to Woodstock,” must be amused today to see their old band splashed all across the Internet. Well, one member might be less than amused. Headless Chickens probably wouldn’t have a Wikipedia page and certainly wouldn’t be written about today if it weren’t for the fact that the short-lived band featured a certain Mr. Thom Yorke, of another band with “head” in its name, on guitar and vocals. Now a video has surfaced of Yorke and Headless Chickens performing an earlier version of the future Radiohead classic “High and Dry” live in concert in the late 1980s at Exeter University’s Lemon Grove.
Because this was the era before camera phones, the video quality is pretty good, especially for a 25-year-old clip. The song would end up on Radiohead’s second album, 1995’s The Bends, but is fully recognizable in this version. I wonder if Yorke still stays in touch with any of these guys? One member, Simon Shackleton, now makes electronic music (check out his site here). Check out the video below, followed by the music video for Radiohead’s version.
