Watch Rick Astley Cover Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” at a 1980s Festival
This Past Saturday at Let's Rock London
You've just been Rickrolled. Sort of. When I work up this morning I didn't think I'd be writing a news item on Rick Astley, but what the hell, why not? While Mark Ronson was busy at Glastonbury this past weekend performing his mega hit "Uptown Funk" with Grandmaster Flash, Mary J. Blige, and George Clinton filling in for Bruno Mars, Rick Astley (best known for his own mega hit, 1987's "Never Gonna Give You Up") was covering the song at the Let's Rock festival in London, a 1980s-centric festival this past Saturday. Watch the fan video of Astley's performance below.
And hey, he does a pretty good job with it (his vocals sound unchanged from the '80s). Perhaps next time Ronson needs a fill-in for Mars he should call on Astley? Or maybe it's time for an Astley comeback album produced by Ronson or an Astley guest vocal on the next Ronson album. Probably none of that will happen, but it's fun to dream.
