Sam Beam and Jesca Hoop
Sam Beam and Jesca Hoop will be releasing their new album of duets Love Letter for Fire April 15 on Sub Pop. To help listeners prepare for the release, the duo has premiered a new video via Pitchfork for their song “Valley Clouds.” In the video, which was directed by Erin Elders, Beam and Hoop are bartending while a couple sings their hearts out on karaoke to a crowd that doesn’t seem to care. According to the press release the video gets “its inspiration from German and Scandinavian cinema of the 60s and 70s, contrasting light-hearted humor with visually intense vignettes.” You can watch the video below.
The album will be available on CD, LP, download and cassette April 15. The thirteen-track album also features the single “Every Songbird Says” and was produced, recorded and mixed by Tucker Martine (Modest Mouse, Decemberists, Neko Case) at Flora Recording & Playback in Portland, and mastered by Richard Dodd in Nashville. Love Letter for Fire features Beam and Hoop on vocals and guitar along with Robert Burger (keys), Eyvind Kang (violin, viola), Glenn Kotche (drums, percussion), Sebastian Steinberg (bass) and Edward Rankin-Parker (cello).
