The first teaser trailer for the new Star Wars film, Episode IX, now also titled Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has been shared. It very much centers on Rey (Daisy Ridley), but also teases the return of a major villain from the original trilogy. Watch it below.

J.J. Abrams, who helmed the first of the new Star Wars films, 2015's Stars Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, has returned to the director's chair for Episode IX after Rian Johnson took his turn with 2017's Stars Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, a film that divided fans. Episode IX sees the return of cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, and Adam Driver, among others, with longtime Abrams collaborator Keri Russell (Felicity, The Americans) joining the cast in an unnamed role, as well as Matt Smith (Doctor Who) coming onboard.

As glimpsed in the trailer, Billy Dee Williams is returning to the role that made him beloved by fanboys worldwide, Lando Calrissian. Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) played a younger Lando Calrissian in the prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story, which came out back in May 2018 and disappointed at the box office. There's a brief shot of the late Carrie Fisher (as General Leia Organa), who died prior to filming Episode IX, but seems to have been worked into the film somehow, as well as a voice over from Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker.
