50 Song Memoir Out Now via Nonesuch

Stephin Merritt's The Magnetic Fields recently released a new album, 50 Song Memoir, via Nonesuch. It's a five-disc album that features a different song for every year that he's been alive. Now he has shared a video for the song that tackles 1988, "'88 Ethan Frome." Ethan Frome is also the title of a 1911 novella by Edith Wharton, which the song and video references. Perhaps 1988 is the year that Merritt first read the book? The video features pencil drawings by illustrator Alexander Petrowsky, as if drawn in a school notebook, and was animated by John Erickson.
