A new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered during the Olympics tonight and can be watched below. It shows off more of the plot, which focuses on the rebel spies who help steal the Death Star plans that Princess Leia ultimately gives to R2-D2 at the start of the very first Star Wars movie back in 1977 (Episode IV A New Hope). And stick around until the end for a brief glimpse at a familiar foe.
Last December’s megahit Star Wars: The Force Awakens was just the beginning, there are a whole ton of Star Wars movies on the way, one every year for the next few years. And while the direct sequel to The Force Awakens isn’t due until December 2017, this December we get Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The film stars Felicity Jones, the British actress who was Oscar-nominated for The Theory of Everything, as rebel spy Jyn Erso. The film also stars Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, and Mads Mikkelsen. Gareth Edwards, who helmed the recent Godzilla movie as well as Monsters, directs from a script by Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta (based on an idea by John Knoll). Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is due out December 16.
