Wye Oak (Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack) released a new album, The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs, back in April via Merge. (It was our Album of the Week.) Now they have shared a new live video where they perform the album’s “The Instrument” in the woods in North Carolina. It’s the first of three such videos they will be sharing this week, it will be followed by “It Was Not Natural” and title track “The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs.” The videos were produced by Remedy Co. Wasner had this to say about the videos in a press release: “I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t believe we’re already here. Releasing a record is an absolute whirlwind of activity-between shows and travel and interviews, radio appearances, social media maintenance and the never-ending, all-encompassing Creation of Content-it can be difficult to find a moment to breathe. This summer we tried to carve out some time to sit and peacefully reflect on this thing we’ve made-and these videos, captured in the late-summer woods near our home in North Carolina, are the result. They are a quieter, more minimal take on some of our favorite songs from the record. We hope you enjoy them. Our upcoming tour will be our last chance of the year to play these songs for you, and it kicks off November 7th! Come share some space with us and help us celebrate the wild year we’ve had before we all go into hibernation. Thanks <3”

Previously Wye Oak shared the album’s title track (which was our #2 Song of the Week), as well as a video for “The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs,” the atmospheric “It Was Not Natural” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week), and “Lifer” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week). There was also a video for “It Was Not Natural.”

To record the album Wasner and Stack took turns visiting each other’s cities (Durham, North Carolina for Wasner and Marfa, Texas for Stack) for a week at a time.

In 2016 Wye Oak surprise-released the excellent Tween, a mini-album on Merge. Wasner released her debut full-length album under her Flock of Dimes solo project, If You See Me, Say Yes, the same year via Partisan.
